San Francisco is a first rate destination and it has plenty attractions that are kid friendly. From Alcatraz, to theaters, to museums you have plenty to do in San Francisco.
San Francisco offers both locals and visitors great activities, like the Young Museum and the Exploratorium, or amazing beaches, where kids can play for hours, and of course the 1,000 acre Golden Gate Park and the Presidio national park.
But the best part is that the city is easy to navigate and most kid friendly places are in a concentrated areas with access to public transportation. So here are my favorite places in San Francisco. If you have another favorite spot let me know.
Walt Disney Family Museum
This is not Disneyland, but you will find a miniature replica of the park in the museum. Here you will find the Disney family memories and the life of Walt Disney, including his films and of course Disneyland.
There is something for every age, while the grown ups are learning about the evolution of Mickey and Disneyland. Kids can participate in the Little Open Studio, where they will enjoy story time and family-friendly activities, specially kids under 7 years old.
Also every day of the week, except Tuesdays, you can enjoy a Classic Disney Movie, from Bambi to Mary Poppins. Make sure to check out the show calendar, but they usually show 1 movie in the morning and a couple of movies in the afternoon.
Bay Area Discovery Museum
To get to the museum you have to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Bay Area Discovery Museum have indoor and outdoor activities for kids aged 6 months to 10 years.
In here you will find:
Tide Pools
Gravel Pits
Fishing Boats
Shipwrecks
Caves
Spider Web Installations.
Exploratorium
This place is awesome, it was named by CNN as the #1 Spot for Kids, not only for San Francisco, but in the country.
The Exploratorium is not your typical museum, in here they encourage guests of all ages to touch, explore and play with 600 exhibits.
Kids can step inside a tornado, build their own electrical circuits or count the rings of a 300 year old tree. You will explore the environment with your own hands, investigate, experiment and much more.
Of course you can spend the whole day there because The Exploratorium offers a cafe, and a waterfront restaurant with excellent cuisine.
It offers something to everyone, if you have toddlers follow the giant bubbles and if you forget your stroller don´t worry they are available on a first come.
House of Air
Is located in San Francisco´s Crissy Field, and is a great indoor option. Kids will love to jump and in here they will find:
Open Trampoline
Trampoline Dodgeball
And if you are lucky you can catch Olympians training on the trampolines.
PIER 39
Is located on Fisherman's Wharf. In here you can visit the sea lions, or just watch the magicians, comedians and street performer shows that are daily.
There are other activities too:
Aquarium of the Bay
San Francisco Carousel
Bungee Cords and Giant Trampoline
Caricature Stand
Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze.
At Pier 39 there is something fun everyday for everyone.
The Butterfly Joint
Is a woodworking studio for all ages, starting from children 2 years old and up.
Kids love The Butterfly Joint because they learn traditional joinery techniques to create amazing pieces of art.
Golden Gate Park playground
Is a great way to spend the day. Children will love the wooden play structure, boat swings, monkey bars, the concrete slide on the hill, giant tires and lot of space to run and have fun.
Just make sure you keep your children close because the park is very big, with lots of trees and brush, and not enclosed, just keep an eye on your kid at all times.
San Francisco Zoo
Looking for a fun day to spend with your kids, take a visit to the San Francisco Zoo.
The San Francisco Zoo is located just steps from the Pacific Ocean on the western side of the city.
In here you can see:
Tigers
Penguins
Gorillas
Snow Leopard
Black Rhinoceros
Polar Bears

Children's Creativity Museum
If you as a parent or guardian want to expose your children to creativity, Children's Creativity Museum is the place to go.
The museum will inspire kids to imagine, create and share. The exhibits that include an Animation Studio, Imagination Lab, Music Studio and a Cloud Gallery is suitable for kids all ages and is packed with workshops and activities.
The Children's Creativity Museum will be a great adventure for your kids.
As you can see San Francisco offers plenty of educational experiences, outdoor space to play and friendly culture, that the kids won't even realize they're learning. They will have a great time, and so will you.
So your next vacation plan an exciting trip to San Francisco, were there are more than 100 playgrounds, recreation centers, coffee shops, exquisite restaurants, beaches and a lot more. You and your kids will have some much fun you will be amazed!
